Steps to Change Passenger Names in a Booked IRCTC e-Ticket
- You need to obtain a printout of the ticket and with the print out you need to visit the Railway Reservation Office. This should be done at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.
- At the railway reservation office, you need to share the details with the executive and give an application for the same in return. However, you must note that the ticket can only be transferred to a family member and you would need documents to prove the relationship.
- Submit the application along with the document that can prove the relationship and the executive will issue you a new ticket with the new name.
So, you can basically transfer your railway ticket to your father, mother, brother, son, daughter, sister, husband, wife or anyone that falls under blood relationship. However, the Photo ID of both the applicant is compulsory.
This was the procedure to change the name of the passenger in a booked IRCTC e-ticket so you do not have to cancel the ticket and re-book the ticket. Also, it should be noted that you can only change the name once on a PNR.
As of now, there is no online procedure to change the name so you need to visit the IRCTC Reservation Office. The online procedure is not applicable to prevent the misuse of the service.
